As a child, one of the best things about the Christmas dinner table was the Christmas crackers. Full of those endless bits of plastic rubbish that would be the most amazing fun in the world for an hour or two, before they made their way to the bin, often in pieces. Thankfully, we’ve wised up a bit over the years, and there are now many more environmentally friendly options available. One of our favourites for 2025 is She Grows Veg compostable Christmas crackers
.
She Grows Veg sprouted from the passion for growing vegetables from seed that was shared by founders Lucy Hutchings and Kate Cotterill, back in 2023. Since then, the company has bloomed, as the green-fingered pair share the heirloom vegetable varieties from around the world that they both love.

What better next step than to create Christmas crackers which are not only 100% compostable, but also provide the seeds for next year’s Christmas dinner veg? These traditionally styled, yet contemporary, Christmas crackers come complete with everything we’ve come to expect from a cracker, but with better environmental credentials. Each vegetable-adorned cracker comes with a recyclable Christmas hat, an eco-friendly snap, a veggie-themed joke and a packet of seeds.
If you’ve never turned your hand to growing veg before, this is the perfect catalyst to give it a go. Each packet of seeds has sowing and growing instructions on the reverse, as well as a QR code that takes you to instructional videos on YouTube that give even more help and encouragement to get you growing.

For gardens big or small, this is a fantastic opportunity to turn a beloved Christmas tradition into a veg-fuelled venture. It’s also a great way to encourage the kids to get involved, too. Imagine the joy on their faces when the vegetables on your Christmas dinner plate next December are the result of a joint seed-sprinkling adventure. You never know, perhaps they’ll even eat the Brussels…
