Shizuoka prefecture, located just an hour outside of Tokyo by bullet train, is home to the iconic Mount Fuji, which is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Japan. For the first time, visitors will be able to get a great view of the mountain from the air, as Fuji Dream Airlines announces the launch of exclusive scenic charter flights this summer.
Previously, only bookable as part of a wider tour package, this experience can now be booked independently as a standalone trip, allowing customers to get a close-up viewing of the majestic mountain. Departing from Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport, the route is operating on weekends and public holidays throughout July and August, with additional departures now added for September and October.
Unlike regular flights that offer a glimpse as they pass over the mountain on route to other destinations, this tour glides at a lower altitude, passing the famous landmark before descending back to the runway at the departure airport.
The flights will be operated on either a 76-seat or 84-seat Embraer aircraft and will depart at 7:30 am to try to ensure optimum visibility. Each flight, from takeoff to landing, will last around an hour. Complimentary refreshments, including local tea and Japanese snacks, are provided to enjoy during the flight, enhancing the overall experience.
While the route has been designed to get up-close and personal with Mount Fuji, other sites, including the Japanese Southern Alps and Shizuoka’s coastline, including Suruga Bay, and Shimizu Port, will also be visible during the flight.
Fares are available from 20,000 JPY (approx. £101) per person, exclusive of fuel surcharge and passenger facility costs, and tickets must be booked at least seven days in advance via Fuji Dream Airlines’ website
. Children under 3 years old can travel for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
