As we age, what our body and hair need to stay in fine fettle changes, but if you’re like me, you might be a little slow to adapt, relying on the same old products you’ve used for years. My recent experience with Rehab hair products has opened my eyes and hair follicles to invigorating change for the better.
The basic fact is that I can be pretty lazy when it comes to self-care. For years, my hairbrush has been my fingers, and I don’t even own a hairdryer. I turned 50 earlier this year, and having already gone through a relatively early menopause and started suffering the after-effects of those changes, it was time to take a positive step to get things back on track.
My hair was a good place to start. It’s one of the first things I notice every morning in the mirror, and its increasingly coarse feel was beginning to get me down. To add insult to injury, not only did it feel more coarse, but it also seemed to fall out in handfuls every time I washed it. I needed to take action or invest in a selection of hats.

I really don’t suit a hat, so I decided that Rehab hair products were a much better choice. Rehab’s range is small but well-formed, and I opted to try out the Dose 0 Matcha Scalp Oil and shampoo and conditioner sheets.
Dose 0 Matcha Scalp Oil
comes in capsules, each containing an individual dose of oil that Rehab believes is enough to nourish your scalp and stimulate hair growth and conditioning. Created using a blend of different oils, including Camellia Sinensis leaf oil (Matcha green tea) and Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil, it boasts properties which will not only improve hair and follicle condition but also soothe the scalp and help to control dandruff.
Having given my scalp a pre-oil massage, as recommended on the bottle, I shoved my doubts well and truly down and tore open the capsule, ready to apply the oil as directed. The first thing I noticed was the fabulous scent — it was fresh, floral, and herbal all at once.
This was an encouraging start, so I carefully applied the oil to the three vague partings I had made in my hair. The dose is relatively small, so it’s difficult to distribute evenly, but that got easier with each subsequent application.
Rehab sells a massage comb that can help with scalp stimulation and oil distribution, but after initially trying it, I preferred to use my fingertips. What surprised me most was that after massaging the oil into my scalp for a few minutes, my hair and scalp didn’t feel oily. Almost all had been absorbed, leaving behind little more than a delicate scent and a lovely tingling feeling from the massage — bliss!
The only downside to the Dose 0 Matcha Scalp Oil is that you should apply it and leave it on for up to 4 hours before washing your hair. If, like me, you’re a morning hair washer, that could be problematic unless you’re also a very early riser or lucky enough to work from home. It’s recommended for use once or twice a week, so it’s by no means a deal breaker and could actually give you a reason to slow down and have a little self-care pamper session on a regular basis…

After a cup of tea and a few hours of mindless doom-scrolling, I headed to the shower with my shampoo and conditioner sheets to try out. The shampoo sheet
created a lot more lather than I expected, and there was plenty to wash my hair thoroughly, which had been one of my fears. It was plentiful, rich and luxurious, and once I’d rinsed, my hair felt almost squeaky clean.
The conditioner sheet was a little weaker. It disintegrated much more quickly and with less water added than the shampoo sheet, so I had to very quickly apply it to my hair for fear of it washing away. Armed with this knowledge, though, the second use was more successful, and I was delighted with the outcome.

I’ve been using Rehab hair products for a couple of weeks and have been impressed with the results. My hair feels softer and in better condition than it has for a while, and I love how my scalp feels after an oil treatment. Does it help with hair growth? That remains to be seen, but I’ll persevere to find out!
Rehab products are great for your hair, in my opinion, and pretty good for the environment, too. All of the products are made using vegan-friendly, cruelty-free ingredients, and the capsules and sheet packaging are all biodegradable — just dissolve them in warm water, and they wash down the plughole. The shampoo and conditioner sheets are also perfect for travelling, as you can just throw a handful into your hand luggage without adding bulk or weight or worrying about the 100ml liquid airport rules if you’re flying.
The only sticking point for some will be the price. At £24 for 25 shampoo or conditioner sheets, these are premium products, which may be a stretch too far for those on a budget.
The hair and scalp oils are much more affordable overall, costing £26 for 30 capsules. Using them once or twice a week will make them last much longer while still giving your hair a regular treat and you the excuse to relax and pamper for a few well-deserved hours.
