For years, parents have been searching for the holy grail of prams — a carrycot-topped chassis that can fold so compactly that it can easily drop into the car boot, or even be carried on as hand luggage. It seemed they were looking for the impossible, until Silver Cross unveiled its newest innovation, Nia.
Travelling with small children can be a testing operation, particularly with very young babies, but the iconic British brand is meeting the challenge head-on. Nia is the first stroller to be IATA cabin approved in both carrycot and seat configurations.
While Silver Cross isn’t the first to market with a folding carrycot, it is the first that can be folded as part of the chassis, to a size of just 54cm x 45cm x 23cm, and weighing just 5.6kg (with carrycot).
It doesn’t stop there. Once the baby has grown out of the carrycot, that can be replaced with a lie-flat seat with a UPF50+ sun canopy. There’s ample storage, too, with a basket that can accommodate up to 8kg for baby paraphernalia or shopping, and there’s a storage pocket in the back of the seat for those little extras.
Silver Cross boasts that Nia can be folded one-handed, can stand independently once folded, and is fitted with a shoulder carry strap to make public transport and travel simple.
So how much does all this cost? That’s another strength for Silver Cross — the 6-piece bundle, which includes the chassis, carrycot, seat, car seat adaptors, bumper bar and rain covers, is a pretty reasonable £695. Without the carrycot, that drops to £395.
I’ve not yet tried or tested the model to assess the quality or usability of Nia, but with Silver Cross being a known and trusted brand with a reputation for reliability, I’m sure this will be a great addition to the brand’s travel stroller line-up. Nia can be pre-ordered now at the Silver Cross website
