Regardless of gender or age, we all need a helping hand to keep our skin and hair looking great. We’ve tried a range of different self-care products that can ensure we’re in tip-top shape, both inside and out.
Dermikelp skin and hair care
From £11
If you’re prone to sensitive skin, finding self-care products that don’t send you over the edge can be an expensive and time-consuming battle. Dermikelp has created a range of products specifically designed to soothe sensitive skin, help restore the natural balance, and control flare-ups.

The range, which includes soothing shampoo, body wash, fast-acting soothing creams, and moisturising lotion, is suitable for use from birth, making it perfect for the whole family, from the youngest to the oldest and everyone in between.
The dermatologically tested range of creams and lotions can be applied as often as you feel is needed — one great advantage of there being no unnatural nasties in it — adding hydration to skin in need of soothing and quenching.
All of the products have a unique, but not unpleasant, scent, largely thanks to the sustainably harvested sea kelp that forms a significant part of the formulation, which fades quickly as the products are absorbed into the skin. We found that you don’t need much to cover a good-sized area, so it will last well, too.
Whether you’re plagued by anything from an itchy scalp to eczema, Dermikelp could be precisely what you’ve been looking for. With prices starting from under £8, it’s not bad for your pocket, either.
Harry’s skincare
From £5
Harry’s is well-known for its shaving subscription model, but did you know it also has a range of skincare products in its lineup? If your Average Joe doesn’t have an established skincare
routine, but you think it’s time he embraced one, then we’d recommend the Full Skin Care Suite. It has everything he’ll need to whip his skin into soft, supple shape, and it’ll add a daily dose of SPF15 to his face, which is something we all tend to let slide, particularly on dull days.

The suite of six self-care products includes a fabulous Freshening Face Toner with a wonderful minty scent, an exfoliating face wash, and a hydrating night lotion, which at just over £26 for the complete package is excellent value.
You might find that he’s not a fan of all the products, or a full regimen is a step too far, but having tried them, he can tailor it from then on to give the level of skincare he’s looking for. Any that he’s not using will be a nice boost to your own beauty routine — well, waste not, want not, and all that.
Nourished layered supplements
From £15
Daily supplements can be a bit of a minefield. With so many options, how do you know what is right for you, and do you need everything that’s in them? That’s where Nourished is looking to shake things up. Not only does it offer a range of ready-made options, covering everything from sexual health to sleep, and menopause to muscle health, but you can also create a supplement tailored to your exact requirements.

We tried the Collegen+ Gut stacks and were impressed by the clarity of the information on the packaging, which provided a breakdown of everything in each stack and an explanation of what each element aided. Inside the box, the daily dose of two gummy stacks is individually packaged, making them easy to pull out and consume. The best part is, they taste amazing.
Do they work? That, as ever, is the all-important question, and one that I can’t honestly answer after only a short trial of the product. But if you do take supplements on a daily basis and know what works for you, then having them layered into one convenient, easy-to-chew gummy with no nasty additives or unwanted extra elements must be a good thing. And they could well save you a few quid, too.
Innersense hair renew scalp hairbath
£30
It makes sense that a healthy scalp will ensure healthy hair, and Innersense Hair Renew Scalp Hairbath is an easy way to gently detoxify the scalp and remove product buildup, while nourishing the hair and de-stressing the mind.

Infused with fermented willow bark and green coffee bean extract to reduce scalp flaking and promote hair growth, it leaves your scalp with a faint tingle and your hair feeling clean and fresh. A faint scent of herby menthol adds to the feeling of freshness without being overpowering.
Innersense Hair Renew Scalp Hairbath is an excellent addition to your self-care routine, but at £30 for the 295ml bottle, it’s probably best employed as a weekly treatment rather than a daily dose.
