There was a time when getting dressed meant pulling on a velour tracksuit, finding your lip gloss and checking you had enough credit to text your friends. Your handbag probably contained a flip phone, and your biggest technological concern was choosing the right MSN Messenger status.

Toyota would like to take us back there, preferably in a pink zebra-print car.

The manufacturer has teamed up with Juicy Couture to create a one-off Aygo X Juicy Edition, complete with sparkling logos, pink leather seats and enough noughties energy to have us digging out our old compilation CDs. Better still, someone will get to keep it.

Toyota Aygo X Juicy Couture

A little less subtle, a little more Juicy

If your idea of a stylish car involves discreet metallic paint and tasteful black upholstery, this probably isn’t your moment.

The Juicy Edition wears a custom pink zebra-print wrap, with pink vinyl detailing on the alloy wheels and a diamanté Juicy logo across the tailgate. It’s the automotive equivalent of having the brand’s name across the back of your joggers, which feels entirely appropriate.

Inside, there are plush pink leather seats with Juicy logos picked out in metallic silver stitching, plus zebra-print accents around the air vents and gear lever. All that’s missing is a tiny handbag and a ringtone you paid £3 for.

It’s gloriously excessive, and that’s rather the point.

We’re not suggesting that every car needs pink zebra print, but if you’re going to bring back the noughties, you might as well commit.

Back when velour ruled the world

Juicy Couture’s noughties credentials are well established. In 2001, the brand designed its first custom velour tracksuit for Madonna, helping spark a loungewear trend that spread worldwide and refuses to die out.

Toyota has its own connection to the era, too. In 2006, the original Aygo became the sponsor of T4, the UK television institution that made lounging around in a tracksuit and watching TV feel like a perfectly respectable weekend plan.

And the soundtrack? Girls Aloud would be a good place to start. Formed on ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals in late 2002, they went straight to that year’s UK Christmas number one with Sound of the Underground. Put that on, add some oversized sunglasses and you’re well on your way.

Fancy winning it?

The Aygo X Juicy Edition is a bespoke competition prize, so you won’t find it sitting in your local Toyota dealer.

To be in with a chance of winning, you’ll need to test your knowledge of noughties culture in Toyota’s online quiz. Those years spent reading celebrity magazines — or perhaps just this page — could finally prove useful.

You can find the entry details and full terms and conditions on Toyota’s Aygo X Juicy Couture competition pageExternal link.

Toyota is also taking the collaboration to shopping centres across the UK during October, with limited-edition pink fluffy mirror dice and other Juicy Couture goodies among the prizes in an instant-win raffle. Availability is limited, so check the event details before heading out.
